Should you let your employees have a break in order to bring their phones out and color away for half an hour? Yes, you should. Isn’t it the waste of your money and time? No, it is definitely not. ”How come?” one might ask. Well, for a couple of reasons. A happy worker is a productive worker. No matter how much one might like or love their job, sometimes it can bring some extra stress into people’s lives. It doesn’t mean the solution is to go crazy, lose your mind or even give up. Simply find a way to let that stress go. Why not let that outlet be coloring?
Elementary school is a tough time in the lives of many children. Most kids report a lot of boredom at school. They hate homework and would rather be playing outside. Although recess is fun, most of their time is spent doing some things that they find boring. Perhaps this is a good idea given that some kids will end up doing a job they don’t like! However, shouldn’t elementary school be a time when kids have some fun? Obviously you need to teach them some critical skills, but it is also important for them to enjoy themselves. One way to do so is to encourage their creative side. If kids are given an opportunity to express themselves and control a creative product you will find that they enjoy school much more. Regular creative projects will dramatically change the way elementary school kids think about learning. Because most kids love animals it is a good idea to integrate this love with their creativity. Although most kids don’t know how to draw animals they can learn to color them. Described below are some of my favorite animal coloring crafts for elementary school.
Animal coloring books. Find fun animal coloring books that provide an array of different animals for the students to color. Don’t just settle for the same old animals; look for coloring books with exotic animals. This not only provides some variety, but it also provides a great learning opportunity. The children will learn a great deal about new animals and their environments. Dinosaurs are also a very popular animal among young children. Find out which animals the kids like and provide them with coloring books specific to their interests.
When children are allowed to fill in coloring sheets they will often display parts of their personality by favoring some colors over others or by coloring in a particular fashion. For example, one little girl may color her princess coloring pages with short, careful strokes so that she is certain not to go out of the lines while another little girl with the same princess coloring pages scribbles quickly in a hurry to get done first.
Create your own animal contest. Have the children color various animals in whatever way they like. If a child wants to color a monkey purple allow them to do so. Then cut up various parts of the colored images. Cut the body parts off of the animals and place them in a pile on a table. Then have the kids assemble animals out of the parts. The final product will be a remarkable and weird compilation. This exercise usually really gets the kids laughing as they create funny and weird animals.
The time to open the lines of communication with your child is when they are young. A two or three year old may not be able to have an hour long conversation and tell you everything that is running through their mind or that may be bothering them, but if you take the time to pull out some coloring pages and sit with them for some creative play you will find that they do have their own ways of communicating with you.
Coloring options also include micas. Micas can be classified as both a natural colorant as well as a manufactured colorant. This is because the basic mica is mined form natural sources, however, it is then coated with laboratory created coloring agents on one side to create a shimmering effect. Micas are best suited for coloring clear soaps. In addition to these two soap coloring options you can also use FD&C colorants. These colorants are made in a laboratory and they do not come from natural sources. Because these colorants can be mass produced they are generally inexpensive and widely available.
